2) Our fashion-focused autumn window was inspired by the feel of the city at this time of year, with spice infused colours ready to ward off winter's cold bite. The runaway hit seems to be Elmira's Coat, designed by one of our in house designers. We've had lots of interest in the small accessories which are great, small projects perfect to create on the weekend and brighten your week! When you're in search of that perfect winter gift, or just feel like treating yourself to something luscious, drop in and our friendly staff can get you started.
"Nursery" Window Display Did you spot our
special front window display this summer? (Window

2) This nursery-themed display was extremely popular with the
crowds on York Street. The runaway hit seems to be the Cute
Baby Crocheted Blanket by local designer Devvy Leys. We also
had lots of interest in the knitted matinee jackets and bootees. If you
know someone with a baby on the way, drop by the shop and we'll give you
some ideas and inspiration.
Event: Nicky Epstein Book Signing
On September 14, 2007, Tapestry Craft was proud to play host for a demonstration and book signing with renowned knitting designer and author Nicky Epstein. Nearly thirty knitters and crocheters packed into our shop to hear Nicky talk about her career, her inspirations, and her amazing techniques! You can see see our photos from the day. Thanks to everyone who came along, and to Nicky and her husband Howard for sharing their time with us!
Feature: Tapestry Craft in the Media
On May 13, 2007, the Sun-Herald's "Home on Sunday" ran a story about the resurgence in interest in crochet and granny rugs in particular. Manager Kris was interviewed and mentioned the wide range of classes we offer here at the shop. We've been inundated with calls ever since! So if you're planning to attend a crochet class this winter, book soon to secure your spot.

One day in January 2007 the shop was visited by Sahara Briscoe, a knitblogger and textile artist from New York City. Sahara spent hours in the shop talking to the staff, photographing displays, and - of course! - adding to her yarn stash. Since she returned to the US, she's published two great reviews of her visit. It's always interesting to see the place through someone else's eyes! Our shop was also recently mentioned on the Sticks and String Podcast by David Reidy. In the past six months David's show has enjoyed a massive rise in popularity so we certainly appreciate the endorsement!
Feature: "Stitch and Bitch" Group Photos
Our regular Thursday "Stitch and Bitch" group is still going strong. Recently we took some photos to show off the amazing projects our customers are working on. If you'd like to join us, just turn up in the knitting shop from 5-7 on Thursday evenings. It's free and everyone is welcome!

Excursion: Stitching Clinic in Katoomba
On Friday, November 3, Mrs. Morris and Verna led some of the lades of our Stitching Clinic on an excursion to Katoomba. After checking out the world famous Three Sisters, they paid a visit to the stunning Bygone Beautys Teapot Collection. They finished off the morning with lunch at the Convention Center. The Stitching Clinic meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays (see Calendar for dates) from 11am-3pm in our shop at 50 York Street. The cost is $8, and Verna can help with all your cross stitching, tapestry, and embroidery problems.
News: Knit and Quit Classes
Our Knit and Quit class is now finished and we've been amazed with the success of our participants. Many of them have completed multiple projects over the course of the class! The social aspect seemed to help a lot with quitting, and the participants were great about helping each other out and trading stories of trials and accomplishments. It was very inspiring for the teachers as well! We've started a Waiting List for people who are interested, and if we get enough we'll schedule another session. Please let us know if you're interested!
Group Visit: Drummoyne Knit & Yarn
On August 29, we welcomed the ladies of the Drummoyne Knit & Yarn group into our shop. Kris was on hand to show them all the newest yarns and pattern books from overseas, and everyone had a good time learning about some of the exotic fibres that are available to us here in Sydney. The group meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at the Community of Christ at 234 Victoria Road, Drummoyne from 10am. (You can see dates on our Calendar.) Beginners are welcome to join in. If your knitting or craft group would like to arrange a visit to Tapestry Craft, please contact us. (Photo courtesy of Eng-Sim Low.)

Sydneysiders have certainly been reading and hearing a lot about our shop lately! The Knit and Quit campaign seems to have captured the public imagination. The first mention was in the SMH's Fashion Police column, followed soon by a large article in the Sun-Herald. Manager Kris was also popping up all over the radio: an interview with 2UE's Glen Wheeler (1.3MB MP3), an interview on Radio 4BC Brisbane (1.9MB MP3), and another interview on ABC Radio National. Whew! Have you spotted us anywhere else? Please let us know!
Feature: ABC Knit In 2006
The 2006 Knit In at the ABC was an enormous success! Whilst presenters Adam Spencer, Virginia Trioli and Simon Marnie broadcast live across Sydney, listeners around the city sat down to knit or sew squares for Wraps with Love. The captive audience at Ultimo contributed to the overall NSW tally of 2474 wraps (each containing 28 squares), 33,224 squares and more than 150kg of wool. That’s 102,496 squares or the equivalent of 3660 wraps – a more than 100% increase on donations received in 2005! Tapestry Craft regular Amy Barker took several photos including this one of manager Kris with Adam Spencer and several other knitters. Thanks to everyone who contributed!

Did you catch our mention in the February 13 issue of mX? Staff members Melissa and Kris were featured along the article shown at right. Two days later, Kris was interviewed by Murray Wilton for his show The Good Life on Radio 2GB. They chatted about the resurgence of interest in knitting and the availability of "Stitch and Bitch" groups and classes in Sydney. You can listen to the interview here (1.2MB MP3 file).
